Operating System Updates
The SPECTRE 21.1 release has been developed on RHEL 7.4. Therefore, if you are using an operating system older than RHEL 7.4, you need to upgrade to RHEL 7.4 or a later version to be able to use the Spectre products.
New Spectre FX Simulator Introduced
In this release, a new next-generation transistor-level FastSPICE circuit simulator, Spectre® FX Simulator has been introduced. Spectre FX is designed for pre- and post-layout verification of large-scale DRAM, flash, SRAM, and transistor-level SoC designs. It delivers up to 3X transient simulation performance with equivalent or superior accuracy over the latest FastSPICE simulators.

As the industry's leading solution for accurate analog simulation, the Cadence Spectre Simulation Platformcontains multiple solvers to allow a designer to move easily and seamlessly between circuit-, block-, and system-level simulation tasks. The foundation of the platform is a unified set of technologies shared by all of the SPICE engines-the parser, device models, Verilog-A behavioral modeling, input data formats, output data formats, etc.-thereby guaranteeing consistent and accurate evaluation methods regardless of the simulator selected.
The simulator uses improved algorithms that offer increased simulation speed and greatly improved convergence characteristics over SPICE. Verilog-A uses functional description text files (modules) to model the behavior of electrical circuits and other systems.
